A trailer has dropped to give us all a look at some of the environments that can be expected in the upcoming isometric CRPG from Owlcat Games, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
The Warhammer universe is positively ripe for a proper ‘boots-on-the-ground’ tour of it’s locales, and in this spotlight we take a squiz at it’s oppressive Imperial locations – and the far more sinister world of Commorragh, the Dark City home of the Drukhari:
As a long term victim enjoyer of the Warhammer 40k hobby, I have long felt that a more character-focused journey into the grim darkness of the far future would do a great deal to better fill out peoples perceptions of it’s universe.
For many the words ‘Warhammer 40,000’ conjure images of towering Space Marines sallying forth on xenophobic crusades – and while this isn’t inaccurate, it really is a drop in the bucket. The universe has all manner of weird and wonderful factions to encounter (and crush, if you are so inclined) but with the myriad of games that have you playing as the aforementioned Adeptus Astartes it’s slightly hard to shake hands and say g’day when your entire modus operandi is to turn them into paste.
This is why I am excited for Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader – because from what little has been revealed, it seems to be more focused on rubbing shoulders with colleagues from across the imperium, rather than just endlessly crushing foes underfoot. I mean, you will still crush foes (those Drukhari clearly aren’t inviting you over for tea and crumpets) but you’ll at least get a chance to chat before and after the crushing.
While no release date is yet known, this year of 2023 has been mentioned in the odd chat – so we will be keeping our eye out.
