Wholesome Direct Recap – Unfiltered Indie Bliss

So damn wholesome

There isn’t another form of video game announcement that gets the gaming community as hyped as a Nintendo Direct. PlayStation have tried emulating the format in the form of State of Play broadcasts with varying levels of success, but nobody has ever really been able to deliver a performance on the same level as that of Nintendo. Wholesome Games, a collective that seek to spread the word of wholesome indie games today aired their very own Wholesome Games Direct, and I’m not being dramatic when I say it was the best Direct I have ever seen.

The indie showcase presented over 50 wonderfully wholesome games throughout its roughly 35-minute runtime, with not a single game failing to leave me intrigued. As you’d expect from indie games, there were plenty of pixel art titles, unique art styles and numerous games that seek to mimic the wholesome anthropomorphic village vibe of the Animal Crossing games. Despite many games having the same overall aesthetic, each looked unique in their own right.

Considering there were over 50 games shown I’m not going to cover them all in detail here (I may do a top picks soon though), however I’ve listed each game title in announced order, alongside the developers name and the games slated release window.
