Chris Metzen, one of the undisputed fathers of the Warcraft setting has returned to a new creative advisor role within the company.
This glorious news comes via Warcraft senior vice president and general manager John Hight, who revealed in a tweet that Metzen will be working on World of Warcraft initially, before expanding to work on ” other projects across this growing franchise”:

Metzen has an incredible Warcraft history spanning over 20 years – he was creative director on Warcraft III and even vice president of story during his tenure working on World of Warcraft. He is the closest thing we have to a living warchief – and he even voices the iconic character Thrall within the franchise, and continued to do so even after his retirement. I am sure if you cut him, he bleeds Warcraft.
It’s fantastic to hear that he still has passion for the project he is so well known for, and the nebulous description of “other projects within the Warcraft franchise” does a lot to suggest that perhaps we will see more Warcraft-adjacent titles than simply the MMO.
Are you an old school Warcraft nut that remembers Chris Metzen’s art? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
