Apex Legends has proved that you don’t need a blazing marketing trail and months long hype train to land a new game that is not only hella good, but also hugely successful.
Respawn Entertainment, the team behind the beloved Titanfall games (and original Call of Duty masterminds) launched Apex Legends quite literally out of nowhere on Monday and it has taken the gaming world by storm. Never has a battle royale game done this well so quickly with EA confirming today that the game had broken over 2.5 million unique players and a whopping 600,000 concurrent player count.
Again, in less than 24 hours. The very definition of a sleeper hit.
Apex Legends has also been trending on Twitch, doubling the viewer counts of any other game consistently since it launched, leaving popular titles like Fortnite, DOTA and League of Legends in the dust.
This may have something to do with the game being bloody fantastic, a hybrid of all the best things battle royale games have had to offer as well as a unique spin that makes it more akin to Overwatch or Rainbow Six Siege. Couple this with an absolutely joyous FPS shooting gallery and colourful characters that truly set it apart from anything else out there.
Respawn have also announced the first year road-map of the game, with a battle-pass, new legends, weapons and cosmetics all set to drop throughout 2019, as well as planned cross play support.
This is one Titan train that is showing absolutely no sign of pumping the brakes.
Apex Legends is available now for PS4, Xbox One and PC, it is also free!
