Aussie Directors The Philippou Brothers Will Make A Cameo Appearance In Death Stranding 2

Hideo Kojima has announced that Australian film directors Michael and Danny Phillipou will be making a cameo appearance in Death Stranding 2.

During last night’s Hideo Kojima and George Miller In Conversation event, the acclaimed game developer was asked about his experience with scanning world-renowned film director George Miller to bring the character of Tarman to life. Kojima lamented that the global pandemic kept him from visiting Miller and scanning him in person, forcing him to rely on remote work instead.

George’s perspective on the process involved a funny anecdote about a pair of shorts and revealed the approximation of Tarman’s outfit that he wore for the scan, picked out by Kojima, of course. But, while the line of questioning was interesting in its own right, it also set up a fun little announcement.

When asked by moderator Stephanie Bendixsen if he could let slip on any other special guest appearances we can expect to see in Death Stranding 2, Kojima pointed to the crowd and announced that the in-attendance Philipou brothers would be featured as characters in the upcoming sequel.

“They are in as a cameo, you know. And they did the voices,” Kojima revealed. “I met them when they came to Japan. I asked them, ‘Would you like to be in my game?’ They said ‘yeah,’ So I scanned them.”

Much like Conan O’Brien’s cameo appearance in the first Death Stranding, it would be safe to say that the brothers will have a brief showing, but Kojima insinuated that the excentric duo might have a bit more screen time. “They have a big role in the game,” Kojima finished on. A big role doesn’t exactly mean a lengthy role, but hey, we’ll have to wait and see.

For those unaware, Michael and Danny Phillipou are the filmmakers behind the two spectacular horror films Talk to Me and Bring Her Back, the latter of which only hit cinemas a few weeks ago. The talented brothers grew up in Adelaide, cultivating their love for film and special effects through their shared YouTube channel, RackaRacka.
