EA and DICE have announced Battlefield 2042 Season 3: Escalation, going live on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on November 22.
Escalation is set to add a new specialist, map and vehicle, as well as three new weapons and a new battle pass.
The new map, Spearhead, is set in Sweeden, a first for the Battlefield series. The lush, green environment is littered with rock formations, broken up by two huge manufacturing plants that contain high-tech weaponry. Accompanying the new map is the EMKV90-TDR, a futuristic tank that can switch between mobility and siege modes. Mobility mode allows the driver to zip around the area quickly, while siege mode slows the tank’s speed while improving its damage output.
You’ll be using the three new weapons when you’re not blasting around in the new tank. The Rorsch MK-4 Railgun is an electromagnetic-powered gun with a high fire rate and multiple firing modes; the NVK -S22 is a double-barrel semi-automatic shotgun with devastating power at close range, and the NVK-P125 is a semi-automatic sidearm with a long barrel, perfect for long-range firefights. Paired with these new firearms is the addition of a throwing knife, a Battlefield favourite.
Season 3’s new specialist, Rasheed Zain, is an Egyptian soldier that lost his legs in combat and now sports state-of-the-art prosthetics. Zain has the Master of Health ability, granting him faster health regeneration upon killing an enemy while also wielding an Airburst Launcher, a specialised weapon that’s great for flushing enemies out of cover.
Atop all this new content, Season 3 will bring several quality-of-life updates, including a rework of the Manifest and Breakaway maps, increasing their flow and balance. The Specialists will also be sorted into classes, bringing the closer to a classic Battlefield experience. Each class will have their own traits, with the specific Specialist still retaining their unique abilities.
All of this content will be available for free as part of the free battle pass, with those who want to unlock additional cosmetic items being given the option of a premium battle pass.
