Activision has published a gameplay reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 alongside a host of new details about the upcoming shooter.
First and foremost, the campaign, As the name would suggest, the MW3 campaign will be a direct follow on from Modern Warfare 2, with Task Force 141, including fan-favourites Captain Price, Ghost and Soap, looking down the barrel of global conflict thanks to the actions of one Vladimir Makarov, a name that most CoD fans will be familiar with. The campaign will also feature several missions with “open combat,” giving players numerous paths and options to tackle missions however they wish.
As for the multiplayer, MW3 is taking a nostalgic dip back into the original Modern Warfare trilogy. On launch, MW3 will include all 16 of the maps found in the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009, modernised for today’s standards. Post-launch, the game will also be getting 12 brand-new six-vs-six maps to round out the experience.
On launch, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will feature the following maps:
- Afghan
- Derail.
- Estate
- Favela
- Karachi
- Highrise
- Invasion
- Quarry
- Rundown
- Rust
- Scrapyard
- Skidrow
- Sub Base
- Terminal
- Underpass
- Wasteland
As for the gameplay reveal trailer itself, it’s short, sharp, and it’ll have tongues wagging. For the most part, it’s a standard CoD trailer affair, with the team infiltrating a base in the rain, taking out soldiers quietly before things go sideways. It’s not until the final few moments that the newsworthy things happen. Right at the end of the trailer, we see what is more than likely a Russian enemy assemble a gun on a plane before accosting the passengers, only for a message to pop up on their phone saying, “No Russian.”
Those who played the original Modern Warfare 2 will be all too familiar with the controversial mission by the same name that had players committing a terrorist act in an airport while undercover. This doesn’t outright confirm that the mission will be re-created in the new release, but it’s certainly a big tease.
Speaking of multiplayer, it was also confirmed recently that a good amount of content from Modern Warfare 2 would transfer over to Modern Warfare 3, including all unlocked weapons, most cosmetics and various attachments.
Zombies will be returning in MW3. The new mode, cleverly titled Modern Warfare Zombies, is being developed by Treyarch, the team that birthed the popular mode and will shake up the formula somewhat. This iteration will feature the largest map in CoD Zombies history, allowing players to combat the undead in an open-world setting. We’ve also been promised some of the “biggest enemies in Call of Duty history,” so get keen.
Lastly, there will be an open beta across all platforms, with early access being granted to PlayStation owners who pre-order the game, but there are no confirmed dates as of yet.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on November 10.
