Chris Metzen, one of the undisputed fathers of the Warcraft setting has now stepped up into an Executive Creative Director role for the Warcraft universe.
In December of 2022 his wayward soul returned to the halls of Blizzard, with a vaguely creative role – but a statement issued from Blizzard today reveals that he is settling into a far more powerful drivers seat.

For any in the know, Chris Metzen is a Warcraft legend. His history with the franchise spans over 20 years, and he’s played a key role in shaping its world and characters across multiple entries and genres. His first real tenure as creative director was on Warcraft III, but he also served as vice president of story during his time working on World of Warcraft. So when it comes to getting your hands dirty, this bloke has Warcraft up to his elbows. Not to mention, he’s even the voice of the iconic character Thrall (among others).
It’s a thrilling prospect to consider what he may come up with, considering that the story as we know it today was at one point a seed in his mental garden. It may just be hope on my part, but seeing the detail about him heading creative development on the ‘Warcraft Universe’ fills me with hope that maybe Blizzard is considering further titles that aren’t just World of Warcraft expansions – Warcraft IV, anyone?
