Doom: The Dark Ages Has Locked In A May Release Date

We won’t have to wait ages for a release

Developer id Software has announced that its upcoming first-person shooter, Doom: The Dark Ages, will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 15.

Revealed as part of this morning’s Xbox Developer Direct, the third instalment in the rebooted Doom series that kicked off in 2016 will rip and tear its way onto consoles and PCs in the middle of this year. id Software’s ten-minute slot during the Direct highlighted the gameplay and narrative changes coming in The Dark Ages.

Regarding the game’s story, The Dark Ages is a prequel to Doom (2016), allowing players to stomp around as the Doom Slayer before he was whacked into that sarcophagus. The developers refer to the gameplay in Doom Eternal as feeling like you’re controlling a fighter jet, whereas The Dark Ages will be closer to controlling an “iron tank.”

This means that things will be shaken up, with the focus on raw power rather than the acrobatic combat found in Eternal. Either way, the gameplay shown during the Direct was brutal, so I’m sure fans will be pleased.
