PlayStation has announced that God of War Ragnarök has become the fastest-selling first-party game launch in the company’s history.
The sales records have been shared on PlayStation’s social account, revealing that Ragnarök has sold an eye-watering 5.1 million copies within its launch week. As expected, this also makes Ragnarök the fastest-selling game in the God of War franchise history.

We gave God of War Ragnarök a 9 in our review, saying that: “Ragnarök chooses iteration over innovation, but continues to operate in a league of its own in terms of its nuanced gameplay and otherworldly technical execution. This is the new posterchild for what the PS5 is capable of, and the passionate product of a development outfit that can seemingly do no wrong.”
Cory Barlog has recently suggested that Santa Monica Studios are working on “a lot of different things,” and with the huge success of Ragnarök, it would be safe to assume that one of those projects will be continuing the God of War series.
