Here’s Our First Look At Call Of Duty: Vanguard Zombies

Dark Aether Returns

The reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies has dropped, showing off plenty of shambling undead and heaps of co-op chaos.

While the campaign and multiplayer components of Vanguard are being developed by Sledgehammer Games, the Zombies offering is helmed by Treyarch, the originator of the mode. This instalment of the popular offshoot takes place in an alternate Stalingrad in 1944, with Dark Aether magic raising the dead to do the bidding of Nazi Officer Oberführer Wolfram Von List.

The fittingly over-the-top reveal trailer shows a party of four players taking it straight to the horde of the undead. With plenty of weaponry and aid from four otherworldly entities that bestow them with mystical powers, these soldiers tear through the waves of zombies, all to the haunting vocals of Billie Eilish.

We aren’t done with zombies just yet. A first look video was released alongside the reveal trailer, showing off more gameplay and explaining the lore of the game in more detail. This first look explains that players will not only be battling to stop Von List, but they’ll also be facing off against Kortifex the Deathless, a powerful Dark Aether entity.

Luckily for the player characters, they’ll be able to bond with their own entities. Saraxis the Shadow, Norticus the Conqueror, Inviktor the Destroyer, and Bellekar the Warlock are the four available entities that players will be able to bond with, each offering their own useful abilities.

The Mystery Box and Pack-A-Punch machines will be making a return, alongside the new Runes, that will further the story and allow players to use their entity abilities. Another new station is the Altar of Covenants, which allows players to spend Sacrificial Heart items to buff themselves or debuff the zombie threat.

Call of Duty: Vanguard releases on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC on November 5.
