It finally feels like a new year to me. Games are starting to release, announcements are coming in thick and fast, and I’m getting tired, that’s probably the biggest telltale sign. Alongside new releases and updates to those fun and not at all damaging live-service titles, we’ve got subscription service refreshes to talk about. Last month, PlayStation Plus had an…interesting suite, headlined by Payday 3 and accompanied by High of Life, and Pac-Man World Re-Pac. Don’t fret, this month is a little stronger.
As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, March’s PlayStation Plus Essentials games are Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Sonic Colors: Ultimate, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection. These three games will be available for download on March 4.
While the jury is out on whether Veilguard is the grand return to form for BioWare, it being a true single-player RPG is undoubtedly a step in the right direction. Following the events of 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition, you are Rook, a hero tasked with bringing together a group of companions to form the Veilguard and stave off the ancient gods that have risen to power. Combat blends action and strategy, while your choices made out of battle will dictate the story and fate of multiple characters. No matter how you slice it, Veilguard is a big-time release, so having it on PS Plus only a few months after launch is a solid win.
Initially releasing in 2010, Sonic Colors: Ultimate brings the Blue Blur’s multicoloured outing into a more modern age. Set in a theme park created by Eggman, for some reason, Sonic is joined by a range of colourful little aliens that grant him various abilities to go along with his blinding speed. Levels are a mix of 3D and 2D, leaving most Sonic fans pretty happy when it first hit consoles. Ultimate spruces up the visuals and audio, while adding in a new mode and some additional features.
The Turtles in a Half Shell have endured some rotten movies and other adaptations, but the ninja brothers have also been used in some killer games. The Cowabunga Collection brings together a whopping 26 arcade games, including some stone-cold classics like Turtles in Time. Including the Japanese versions of specific titles is a bonus, and despite some games having aged poorly, it’s a collection that most TMNT fans will appreciate. We gave it an 8.5 in our review.
If you haven’t downloaded Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered and The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, you have until February 3 to do so. As always, please remember that you can add these games to your library and download them later if you don’t have any precious space on your hard drive.
Which game will you be downloading first? What games would you like to see in April? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
