Developer NetEase has revealed Marvel Rivals Season 3: The Abyss Awakens, which is set to kick off on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC from July 11.
With Season 2 wrapping up, having added Ultron and Emma Frost to the mix, it’s time to look ahead at what’s next for the Marvel-themed hero shooter. Season 3: The Abyss Awakens will introduce two new playable heroes in Phoenix and Blade, with Jean Grey coming at the beginning of the season and the Daywalker joining during the mid-season refresh. The new season will also see a new map hit the rotation in the form of Klyntar: Celestial Husk, so we can expect to see plenty of symbiotes and a fair share of spiral patterns about the place.
Narratively speaking, this new season focuses on Knull, god of the Klyntar (symbiotes), attempting to corrupt and control the universe through his newly created Queen in Black, Hela. This dark force stirring has awakened an equally devastating power in the Phoenix Force, embodied by the Omega-level mutant Jean Grey. Oh, and Blade is here too, because that dude does not appreciate shadowy villains trying to take over the universe, just ask Ryan Reynolds.

Much like last season’s info dump, we’ve been given plenty of details on Phoenix and her kit, but we’ll need to wait for more info on Blade. Jean is a Duelist, able to quickly fire burning projectiles as her primary attack that stack and seemingly deal more damage on consecutive hits. Able to teleport short distances and briefly fly with cooldown abilities, Phoenix will be a damage dealer that’s hard to pin down. Her Ultimate will see Jean merge with the Phoenix Force and rise into the air, before crashing down to cause massive AOE damage and destroy enemy summons.
