An onslaught of new trailers and details for Firewalk Studios’ upcoming first-person shooter Concord have dropped this morning, including confirmation of an August 23 release for PS5 and PC.
Opening this morning’s State of Play showcase, the cinematic trailer for this five-versus-five FPS introduces us to the world and characters of Concord. Set in the Concord galaxy, you play as a crewmate of the Northstar, a group of mercenaries known as Freegunners (which just sounds awful in my Australian accent). This trailer is very reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy, with a team of ratbag aliens bickering about how best to finish a job and how they didn’t “stick to the plan.”
There’s a good amount of character and life to be found in the trailer, buuuuut it is an online shooter, so we’ll wait and see if that character is actually found within the game.
Alright, give the cinematic trailer a watch before we move on:
Not content with a single trailer, Concord got back-to-back billing. Next up was the gameplay trailer that looked…good? Each Freegunner is shown to have their own set of abilities, from creating walls of fire, laying down proximity mines, leaping into the air, and busting out charged attacks to disrupt enemies. Arenas and characters are full of colour and personality, but it all looks a little bit familiar, so it will be best to go hands-on and find out if Concord has that special something. Thankfully, there will be an early access beta, but it looks to be locked behind a pre-order, so do with that as you will.

Concord is set to release on PS5 and PC on August 23.
