Overwatch 2’s Sword Wielding Warrior Has Come To Slay, Not To Tank

A brand new nightmare for support mains

After the stunning reveal trailer for Overwatch 2’s newest character hit the internet, people were deeply speculating as to what kind of character Vendetta might be. The abilities shown in the debut video were juuuust varied enough to suggest her entering the Tank role – I mean, come on, blocking attacks with a massive paddle-sized sword? It makes sense.

All that mystery goes away today, with a proper Gameplay Trailer showing that this scorned daughter of crime is not here to protect anyone:

From the video description, we get a nice fluffy introduction to what she is capable of:

Introducing Vendetta – Overwatch’s first-ever melee Damage Hero! With her Palatine Fang greatsword in hand, along with her lightning-fast mobility, Vendetta dominates close-range encounters with raw power and unparalleled precision. Dash in and demolish your foes using Whirlwind Dash, Soaring Slice, and Projected Edge, all while building attack and movement speed through her Onslaught passive. And when you’re ready to deliver the final blow, her Sundering Blade Ultimate deals severe damage to enemies directly in front of you.

In less fluffy terms, here is a basic breakdown of what is hunting your supports soon:

So, swinging her enormous sword is the gist of it all – however, using your block ability to absorb energy and blast it back at targets is a neat gimmick. A little like a Zarya bubble that turns into a Reinhardt firestrike.

It is also a relief to see that her movement potential comes from a very flashy move, rather than a simplistic dash or double jump ability – considering my current gripe within the game is the abundance of free movement on newer characters.

Her perks however have a fairly glaring flaw – that being the Swift Vengeance perk. The last player that kills you becomes a target, and eliminating that target gives you a buff? That seems entirely antithetical to how most people play the game, given that they try to avoid dying. Are you supposed to let an enemy support murder you, so you can get a bonus for hunting them down? Seems doofy to me, and I imagine it will get tweaked shortly after release.

All things considered, I am equal parts amused and afraid at what La Lupa is bringing to Overwatch 2. As someone who supports a lot, it’s scary to think of the large sword lady getting all up in my grill. I better steel myself for her limited-time Hero Trial coming up on Nov 26 – Dec 1, and start figuring out how to save my skin from the large Italian lady.

What do you think of Vendetta’s kit? Is it a sword-tastic voyage for you? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
