According to a new report from Bloomberg, Sony has cancelled two unannounced live-service games.
As Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier reported, Sony has axed two in-development live-service titles, one from Bluepoint and the other from Bend Studio. A Sony spokesperson validated Schrier’s report, stating that “two games were cancelled “following a recent review” and that PlayStation will continue making both online and single-player games.”
While game cancellations are difficult, with talented people’s hard work being essentially scrapped, the silver lining seems to be that these cancellations will not result in the closure of either studio, as the spokesperson confirmed, though layoffs have not been ruled out.
Following the report, Schreier took to his socials to expand on the story, claiming that the project that Bluepoint had been working on was a live-service God of War title. The studio had previously released the widely acclaimed Demon’s Souls remake before working as an assist studio on God of War Ragnarök between 2020 and 2022.

It seems that Sony has lost faith in its live-service push following the catastrophic failure of Concord. Concord, a live-service hero shooter developed by Firewalk Studios, was live for only 14 days before shutting down. Upon launch, it received a rocky critical reception. Player sentiment was also middling, but the gaming community’s general disinterest in the title was the biggest killer.
Concord’s colossal downfall resulted in full refunds to those who purchased the game and the complete closure of Firewalk Studios. As an onlooker with no inside track, cancelling these projects appears to be a precautionary measure to avoid another Concord disaster.
