Sea Of Thieves Finally Relents To Add A Friendlier Play Option

Finally, Sea of Friends is a real thing

Sea of Thieves is a risky game, even for experienced pirates. Skeletons, ghost ships, and sea beasts are just the beginning – the most fiendish threat is always other players that are hungry for your booty, and perhaps just your blood.

This has always been a persistent element within the game, initially forming the core experience of the world’s leading pirate simulator; but as the game has evolved and developed it’s more fantastic narrative element, a level of frustrating arose. Many ended up victimised by players that genuinely wanted to disrupt that experience – but this will no longer be the case, thanks to a dramatic update from Rare.

Safer Seas is a new game option that allows players to launch a friendly lobby to experience most of the game’s content without the constant threat of player vs. player action.

The new play option will let players progress up to level 40 with all Trading Companies (except Athena’s Fortune and the Reaper’s) albeit at a reduced rate, and will also provide the option to experience the Tall Tales narrative quests.

This is where the Safer Seas will thrive, because quite often players would experience roadblocks with completing the experiences in the open world – such as encountering a crew already working on a facet of the adventure, or perhaps an opposing crew who understand the narrative goal is a great place to find fresh meat for slaughter.

I personally have close friends who desperately loved the Sea of Thieves fantasy – with all its high seas hijinks. Defending your plunder from others was a huge thrill, but it became a chore when all you were trying to do was rescue Jack Sparrow.

I am positively thrilled that such an allowance has been made, because getting people back to try and finish their epic adventures may well be enough to make their pirate heart swell, and perhaps dive back into the golden shores – with the sun on their face, and the wind at their back.
