Sony Is Planning To Stop Releasing Games For The PS4 By 2025

The sun is slowing setting

Sony has revealed that it planning to stop releasing games for the PS4 by 2025 and focus on releasing games for the PS5, PC and mobile platforms.

The news came to light during Sony’s recent financial presentation, where the Japanese company highlighted expected growth across the PC and mobile categories. It’s not overly surprising given we’re two and half years into the PS5 lifecycle, and it’s normal that Sony would want to focus its efforts on the console.

Launching in late 2013, the PS4 has been a cash cow for Sony, selling over 117 million consoles as of February this year. There are still a ton of big-name titles heading to the PS4, such as God of War Ragnarok, but we are seeing more and more developers leave the PS4 and Xbox One hardware behind. Hopefully as the PS4 is phased out the PS5 is easier to purchase, with supply still providing to be a challenge for Sony and potential buyers.

Were you hoping to squeeze a few more years beyond 2025 out of your PS4? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
