Starfield’s Robot Companion Will Call You By Name, Rude Ones Included

That’s CAPTAIN Orgasmo to you

Starfield may be up and blasting through the cosmos for many, delighting players with a wondrous universe of possibilities and secrets to explore.

But for the more mundane among us, we can delight in something that is always a novelty – when an NPC calls you by your name.

Turns out Starfield follows the neato Fallout 4 playbook of immersion, because the robotic companion Vasco actually copies what our spherical mate Cogsworth did – and will refer to you by your character name, if possible.

Now some may have immediately assumed that due to the robotic nature of Vasco’s tones that this was an example of AI or Microsoft Sam providing the voice work, but that is not the case – our robot pal is actually voiced by the talented Jake Green. Instead, it is simply a long list of pre-recorded name that will be used if they happen to match your selected character name.

These range from your day-to-day monikers, such as Sarah or Robert, and eventually start spiralling into pop culture references and just outright memes. It becomes particularly funny when you realise that Vasco will preface your name with “Captain.”

Some brilliant examples include:

  • Assface
  • Badass
  • Boob/Boobies
  • Cock
  • Dag
  • Fuck/Fucker/Fuckface
  • Todd+Howard
  • Tit/Tittie/Titties
  • Venkman
  • (Captain) Kirk
  • (Captain) Picard
  • Nipple

Seriously, there are all real names that can be spoken to your character.

The list is positively monolithic – somewhere around 2000 recorded designations for your silly little space person.

However there is a level of discrepancy within the list – with some oddly obvious entries being absent.

Take for example the lack of ‘Nick’ or ‘Frank’ – instead offering a more exotic ‘Franke’.

You can be referred to as ‘Captain Sex’, but not ‘Greg’.

It is what it is – and I would not be surprised if some further names perhaps sneak in alongside other patches. And don’t even get me started on the modding community – before long I have no doubt that Vasco will be calling us ‘Your Royal Highness, Biggus Dickus’.

Thanks to the wonder of datamining, one talented individual has actually compiled a delightfully long list of all the recorded name-calls – so take a peek below and perhaps utilise your CTRL+F function to see if your handle made the cut.

It’s a delightful little feature that adds a touch of personalised novelty to your space faring – so shine on Captain Assface, may your name strike fear into the hearts of space pirates everywhere.

If anyone needs me, I will be regretting that I did not name myself Weyland Yutani.

Oh well. Maybe next playthrough.

Did Vasco call you by name? Do you now wish to rename your player character? Let us know in the comments, or on social media.
