EA has unveiled the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Dead Space Remake while detailing some of the game’s new features.
Though it’s clear to see that developer Motive is staying faithful to the original, the trailer shows off an excellent level of visual fidelity, lighting effects and brutal combat. The two-minute trailer shows series protagonist Isaac Clark, voice once again by Gunner Wright, aboard the doomed USG Ishimura. Moving through immensely creepy corridors, we eventually see Isaac taking apart Necromorphs with his trust Plamsa Cutter.

In addition to this awesome trailer, we got a breakdown of some of the new features that’ll be present in the remake. Being recreated from the ground up by Motive, the remake will see the introduction of the Peeling System, a brutal mechanic that sees the bodies of the enemy Necromorphs layered in flesh, tendons and bones that can be blasted away by the player. Those that played the original will know that cutting off the limbs of the Necromorphs is the only way to kill them, so you’ll be seeing this system at work quite a bit I’d imagine.
Another super interesting mechanic that Motive is introducing in the remake is the Intensity Director. As you play, the game will tailor enemy spawns and environmental effects depending on your playstyle. Isaac’s heartbeat, breathing and reactions will all change depending on his stress level also.
As I briefly mentioned, Gunner Wright will returning to voice Isaac Clark, who was originally a silent protagonist up until the game’s sequel. This added dialogue will deepen the narrative and add in more story content. In order to heighten the player’s immersion, the remake will not feature a single load screen or camera cut once they get past the main menu.
Dead Space will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on January 27, 2023.
