It’s been three years since the announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 2018 and since then we haven’t really heard or seen anything more from this illusive instalment into the long-running franchise. The trailer that was shown off back in 2018 was little more than a title card and Game Director Todd Howard made sure to let us know that the game was firmly in pre-production and to not expect it anytime soon.
Recently speaking in an interview with The Telegraph, Todd Howard has finally given an update on the upcoming fantasy RPG, but it’s likely news that Elder Scrolls fans won’t be happy with. When asked about the status of the game, Howard stated that “It’s good to think of The Elder Scrolls VI as still being in a design [phase]..”
That doesn’t exactly give hope to a release date in the near future, but Howard does go on to say that “we’re checking the tech: ‘Is this going to handle the things we want to do in that game?’ Every game will have some new suites of technology so Elder Scrolls 6 will have some additions on to Creation Engine 2 that that game is going to require.”
The main focus of the interview was the Indiana Jones game being developed by Machine Games, which Howard claimed he had “originally pitched [to George] Lucas in 2009.”
With the Indiana Jones project, Starfield and many other promising games in the pipeline, the Bethesda release slate is looking impressive, but this news on The Elder Scrolls VI is likely to disappoint some.
