Until Dawn Is Getting A Film Adaptation From The Director Of Annabelle: Creation

Supermassive news

Sony Pictures has announced that a film adaptation of the horror title Until Dawn is currently in the works.

The announcement came courtesy of an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that the movie adaptation of Supermassive Games’ popular cinematic horror game will be directed by David F. Sandberg, known for Annabelle: Creation and Shazam!. Writing duties will be down to The Nun and Annabelle’s Gary Dauberman, who will be picking up from an early draft that was written by The Invitation’s Blair Butler.

The 2015 horror game was a huge hit, kicking off a mini-genre of its own that Supermassive would continue with The Quarry and various titles under the Dark Pictures Anthology banner. Focusing on a group of arsehole teenagers being petty and argumentative towards each other in a snowed-in cabin in the mountains, Until Dawn feels like a homage to classic teen-horror films of the 80s and 90s (we gave the game an 8).

Most of Until Dawn’s action plays out in the form of quick time events, giving it a fairly cinematic quality, to begin with, so it’s no real surprise that movie executives would be drawn to it in hopes of adapting a popular game for the silver screen. It’s also worth noting that notable actors such as Hayden Panettiere and Rami Malek provide voice work and lend their likeness to prominent characters in the game, so we could see them reprise their roles if that’s the route the studio goes with it.
