Welp, Mortal Kombat 12’s Official Name And Game Editions Have Leaked

A glorious name to confuse us all

I had barely finished buzzing about the fun little teaser for the newest Mortal Kombat that was let loose this morning, but apparently there is some hot gossip ripe to fall off the vine.

Turns out the ever-reliable billbil-kun has dug up pay dirt on some retail news for the game, listing a range of game editions that will be available to purchase – but also the juiciest tidbit, the actual name of the title:

In my cold blooded reptilian haste, I intended to do a speculative piece about how I would expect Mortal Kombat 12 to technically be a prequel-based sequel – but with the grand reveal of the game being titled Mortal Kombat 1, that is all but confirmed.

This all makes a ton of sense, given the end point of Mortal Kombat 11 put the timeline in the hands of Liu Kang, who almost immediately went to the past and approached one of the greatest champions of the tournament – the original Kung Lao. Not to be confused with the regular razor-hat bloke, this guy was the first person on Earthrealm to represent the Order of Light in Mortal Kombat – and he was victorious.

This ending suggested that Liu Kang might be working to reset the timeline and perhaps stop the tournament from going off the rails and leading to the invasion of Earthrealm – resetting the entire Mortal Kombat history. Neato.

Of course, beyond this time-laden title is a range of neat editions to purchase – with the eponymous “Kollector’s” edition making it’s appearance once more. I am sure this pricey bastard will include some radical stuff in it, and I will be crushed (krushed?) that I can’t afford it. The game also appears to be targeting modern systems, with Nintendo Switch thrown in for good measure.

I am sure a proper reveal must be inching ever closer, but knowing the title has managed to fuel a speculative fire that will keep us all warm while we wait.
