World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic Is Now Live

A shattered world awaits

World of Warcraft’s latest Classic offering has now stoked it’s embers, with World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic roaring to flaming life today.

The long and beloved reign of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic has come to an end, and it was every bit as awesome as we all remembered it. So how does Cataclysm fare as a follow up?

The simple facts are that the expansion is most well known for what it did to the WORLD part of World of Warcraft – with permanent changes made to Azeroth’s landscapes in the wake of Deathwing’s destructive escape from Deepholm. Great cataclysmic scars seared into the landmass, cleaving some zones in two and flooding others. It was a turning point for the game, because it was the first time that an expansion took something that was known and made it unknown.

The other dot pointed changes are fairly static expansion faire, with two new races added to the game in the form of the Worgen and Goblins and six new zones awaiting players journeying their way to the new level cap of 85.

But the real pizazz to be found in the Classic form of Cataclysm is the update transmogrification system – with many modern accoutrements being offered to players who want to play fashionista (and openly remember how painful the system was in its first incarnation).

In my interview with Blizzard Staff Kris Zierhut, Principal Game Designer, and Nora Valletta, Lead Software Engineer, they made mention of several past mistakes that will be openly avoided this time around, flexing the ‘#somechanges’ mentality that has emerged throughout the Classic life cycle. If you are prepping up to step foot into the wake of Deathwing’s emergence, feel free to give that interview a read to learn a little more about what to expect.

Whatever your flavour, returning player or fresh meat for the corrupted Neltharion – know that it’s going to be a unique experience for all. Cataclysm was a turning point for a reason, and you’ll soon see just how much work went into it.

Are you gearing up to revisit the fractured world of Azeroth? Or are you a newcomer to the searing flames? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
