Last weekend rumours that Xbox would be going third-party took social media and the internet by storm, forcing the big cheese Phil Spencer to tweet that an update on Xbox’s business would come this week. Today, Xbox socials confirmed that said update would be happen on Friday at 7am AEDT as a…podcast?

For such a big update, one that could possibly shape the future of the Xbox brand, it seems a little odd that the powers that be would choose to share this information as a podcast and not a video or presentation. It certainly gives further credence to the chances that it will not be good news for zealous Xbox owners and may be a deliberate move to mitigate blowback on whatever news comes. And you’d be hard-pressed to blame them given the reaction by some of the as-yet unconfirmed rumours. Either way, we’ll know for sure this Friday.
