Amazon has announced that it has greenlit a TV adaptation of 2018’s God of War video game for its Amazon Prime streaming service.
The show will see The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins take on the role again, with Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby on writing and executive producer duties alongside Judkins. Santa Monica Studio’s Cory Barlog, who directed the 2018 video game, will also be an executive producer along with other SSM and PlayStation people. No information on the cast was revealed .
In a statement on the announcement, Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios said that “God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling. We are honored to share in the adventure of exploring the God of War mythology in such a momentous way with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Santa Monica Studio.”
God of War is further evidence that PlayStation sees live adaptations as an integral part of its future offerings, with The Last of Us TV show launching next month on Binge/HBO, and shows for both Twisted Metal (Peacock) and Horizon Zero Dawn (Netflix) in the works.
