A New FIFA Game Is Being Developed For Netflix Games

Sounds a bit Tudum

Netflix has announced that a new FIFA game is currently in development and will launch on the streaming platform in Q2 2026.

Revealed through a press release on the Tudum website, Netflix has announced a partnership with FIFA that will see a new “FIFA football simulation game” launch exclusively on the platform. The announcement confirms that the game will release “in time for FIFA World Cup 2026,” meaning this new title will drop before June 2026. The developer and publisher of this new football game was also revealed to be Delphi Interactive, a name that isn’t likely to ring any bells.

Based in California and founded in 2020, Delphi Interactive is a developer and publisher, sure, but it’s also a licensing house, signing deals between rights holders and companies looking to use those properties. Delphi’s first foray into gaming appears to be with 007: First Light, facilitating the licensing agreement between developer/publisher IO Interactive and rights holders. This FIFA title will be the first the company has actively developed and published in-house, so it’s hard to know what we’re in for. Looking at Delphi’s website, which is currently devoid of anything relating to this FIFA game, you’re met with a mission statement that might hint at the studio’s intentions: “Delphi has pioneered a proven model to de-risk titles, reduce development costs, and create unprecedented alignment between IP owners, creatives, and developers.”

Overall, this is an interesting move. FIFA cut ties with EA in 2022, bringing an end to the long-running partnership that had seen a new football game released each year. While EA pivoted and began releasing its football games under the new title of EA Sports FC, beginning in 2023, the FIFA branding has been absent from the gaming space since the split. It would be easy enough to assume that this new title coming to Netflix will be a direct competitor to EA’s series, and the platform’s user base would certainly make that a viable option. However, games on the Netflix platform rely on the player using a mobile phone, something that would make playing a football simulation game cumbersome.

Today’s announcement confirms as much, stating that, “The new FIFA game will join recently released titles as part of a suite of games that Netflix members can find on their TVs, right alongside their favourite shows and movies, using their phones as a controller.” I’m not the target market here, so I could be speaking out of turn, but trying to make precision plays on the pitch using my phone doesn’t sound ideal. Regardless, we’ll have to wait until early 2026 for further details before passing judgement.
