Ahh August. Sure, you’re technically still winter, but the days are slowly getting longer and warmer, so you’re alright by me. Last month was on the quiet side, but August is coming at us with some big releases, so you’ll be forgiven for not having much in the way of spare time. That said, you may not be chomping at the bit to get around Star Wars Outlaws, Black Myth: WuKong or Concord, so you’ll need something to play.
As announced on the PlayStation Blog, the PlayStation Plus Essentials games for August are Star Wars LEGO The Skywalker Saga, Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach and Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights. These three games will be available for download from August 6.
Many of us will have memories of playing LEGO Star Wars as kids, whether in co-op with a sibling or friend or by ourselves at an ungodly hour on a school night. When The Skywalker Saga was announced, I was a little trepidacious simply because it looked to rework the games from my youth, but I was wrong to worry. Retelling the nine mainline Star Wars films, the bundle features a new perspective and expanded gameplay systems to breathe new life into the classics. There’s a ludicrous amount of content to wade through, even for those who blasted through the original games over and over back in the day. We gave The Skywalker Saga an 8.5.
I was in the back half of college when Five Nights at Freddy’s went wild. I could see the appeal, but it wasn’t really my speed. That didn’t stop it from spreading like chants of Nice Gary in 2016. With its immense popularity, the series branched out into other genres, which is how we ended up with Security Breach, a first-person horror game that is light enough on the horror to still appeal to the little tikes. I enjoyed the movie (shoot me), so maybe I’ll jump in and give this one a crack.
For my money, the various gaming subscription services are at their best when they introduce you to a game you’ve never heard of. I might be behind the eight ball, but that’s exactly what’s happened with Ender Lilies, a 2.5D action RPG with a killer look, some solid-looking combat and a dark fantasy world. Ender Lilies slipped past our review net, but Metacritic has it sitting at a very respectable 86, so we won’t be sleeping on it for long.
If you haven’t downloaded Borderlands 3, NHL 24, and Among Us, you’ve got until August 6 to do so. As always, please remember that you can add these games to your library and download them later if you don’t have any precious space on your hard drive.
Which game will you be downloading first? What games would you like to see in August? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
