The Marvel Rivals closed beta test has been in full swing for a couple of days now, with all the chaotic comic action you could ever dream of in one frenetic and sort of alienating package.
Within its hall of heroes and villains, you can likely recognise many big names that have leapt straight from the page – Magneto, the omega-level mutant we all love; Tony Stark, the billionaire philanthropist in super-tech armor; heck, even Groot is there, being a lovely flora colossus.
But the beta was updated today to add two new faces. One was the mighty God of Thunder – Thor, who needs no introduction.
The other? Jeffrey (Jeff) the LAND SHARK.
🎉 Jeff and Thor are joining the @MarvelRivals Closed Beta Test in style!

Jeff is a Land Shark (duh) who was initially adopted by Gwenpool in her madcap comic run. Appearing as a stumpy little guy who very much resembles a shark crossed with a small delightful dog, he is probably the most exciting character to grace the world of Marvel Rivals. I mean sure, playing as Spider-Man is cool and all – but where else are you going to see Jeff doing his thing, let alone get to PLAY as him.
In-game, Jeff is a support character with the ability to heal with his primary basic attack – with the added ability to submerge himself in terrain and swim around with only his dorsal fin exposed. Sadly he doesn’t come with his own Jaws-like theme song, but I am sure you can hum it yourself.
His ultimate ability, ‘It’s Jeff!’ is where you can really get your shark on:
Deep dive into the scenery and resurface to swallow both enemies and allies within range, activating Hide and Seek for a brief duration before ejecting the swallowed heroes forward.
Yes, Jeff can swallow anyone in an area, and then spit them out elsewhere. This is not limited to perilous pitfalls – as I have already seen a bunch of people doing exactly that to wipe out most of the players in the match with one well-aimed PTOOEY. It’s the signature chaos you’d expect from Marvel Rivals so far, just with the added bonus of an adorable package that means it is hard to stay mad at him.
Oh, and they added Thor. He bashes people with a hammer and throws lightning. Whatever.
Thor and more importantly JEFF THE LAND SHARK are available to play with the Marvel Rivals closed beta test right now.
