May 2022’s PlayStation Plus Games Have Been Revealed

Sports and adventures await

The introduction of the all-new PlayStation Plus is looming in June, but we don’t want to look too far ahead, because there’s still a month’s worth of free games to go through before we get there. April gave us Hood: Outlaws and LegendsSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated and Slay the Spire, which surely kept everyone busy, but with the month coming to a close, it’s time to see what’s next for PS Plus.

As announced on the PlayStation Blog, the PlayStation Plus games for May 2022 are FIFA 22, Tribes of Midgard and Curse of the Dead Gods. All three of these titles will be available for download from May 3.

I won’t lie, I’m not overly experienced or skilled when it comes to sporting titles, but I did blow my knee out playing futsal once, so that must count for something. Anyway, FIFA 22 has been considered by many as one of the best soccer games in years, with improvements and additions that push the series forward. Our resident Burnley F.C supported Zach Jackson said in his review that “FIFA 22 is the most enjoyable football title in years thanks to revamped player AI and gameplay mechanics that offer unprecedented realism on the pitch.”

Despite some issues with Ultimate Team, we gave it an 8.5. For those who do enjoy Ultimate Team, this month’s PS Plus lineup includes a bonus FIFA 22 FUT that includes 11 players rated 82 or above and an Icon Moments Loan Player Pick.

A survival game with a beautiful art style and a strong Norse theme, Tribes of Midgard is a bit of a sleeper hit from 2021. You and up to ten other players are tasked with protecting Seed of Yggdrasil from those who wish to bring about Ragnarok. You’ll be exploring, building and fighting enemies all while defending the Tree of Life against many of the threats that Norse mythology has to offer.

The roguelike/roguelite genre is a fairly bustling one, to say the least, so a game has to be a banger to stand out. Curse of the Dead Gods is absolutely a banger, with combat that’s easy to learn, yet hard to master, a great visual style and a progression system that will keep you coming back run after run. A solid amount of weapon variety and gameplay that gets altered between rooms will keep you hooked as you make your way through dimly lit tombs and decaying caverns. I had a grand old time with it, scoring it an 8.5.
