The fun part of a reboot is getting to know old faces in a new way. Thankfully, the Mortal Kombat 1 website has updated to show us all of the confirmed (konfirmed?) characters and give us a run down on how they are faring in the new era.
Some neat details include:
- The revelation that Scorpion and Sub Zero are now brothers (by blood, not by clan)
- Mileena is not longer a clone, and has a deadly disease disfiguring her face
- Raiden is a regular bloke chosen by Lie Kang to be a champion of Earthrealm (The boot is now on the other foot)
- Kenshi is in the Yakuza (!!)

It’s pretty cool to see some narrative choices that will contribute to a fun story spin – it will be neato to see a whole different dynamic to Sub Zero and Scorpion’s rivalry, with many already speculating that Sub may have already done some dodgy shit to secure his role as leader of his clan. I mean, how DID his father die? And by extension, Scorpion’s dad.
Of course this is only a sample of the full roster – a paltry nine characters in a roster that will apparently grow substantially. We still have plenty of speculation to go regarding who else will be joining the kast, so it will be awesome to see how other stories might be rebooted.
