New Images From Mortal Kombat 2 Give Us A Glimpse At Johnny Cage, Kitana, And Shao Kahn

Johnny is looking kool, kalm and kollected

A report from Entertainment Weekly has revealed four photos from the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 film, giving us our first look at some newcomer characters and a few returning faces.

In addition to speaking with series co-creator Ed Boon, Entertainment Weekly got its hands on four brand-new photos from the upcoming martial arts sequel. The first image sees Hiroyuki Sanada’s return as Hanzo Hasashi, better known these days as Scorpion, getting ready to deliver a thunderous “get over here.” The next is our first look at Adeline Rudolph as the Princess of Edenia and fan fanatic Kitana, who’s rocking an outfit very reminiscent of her last few appearances in the games.

Hogging the spotlight, as usual, the next photo is a group shot dominated by one Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. Returning characters Liu Kang, Jax and Sonya Blade, played by Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, and Jessica McNamee, respectively, are all in frame, but they don’t look overly keen to get involved with whatever Cage is fighting. Lastly, we have the conqueror or Outworld himself, the big man, Shao Kahn, played by Martyn Ford, looking ominous in the first closeup of the character. Poised to put on the tournament at the core of the film, Kahn’s mask is a fairly accurate adaptation from the games, with some added texture to help get across that he’s evil.

The Entertainment Weekly report also announced that cosmetic skins matching these character designs will be released for Mortal Kombat 1 later in the year, likely to coincide with the film’s release. Mr Boon gave us a look at these new skins on his X account, and they look pretty schmick.

The first movie saw sorcerer Shang Tsung ignore the rules and attempt to invade Earthrealm (or just Earth to us Eaerthrealm dwellers), but this time around, we’re getting a full-blown tournament that will span the length of the film.

Mortal Kombat 2 will be hitting theatres on October 25.
