The very best way to start a media blitz for a new movie is by promoting an entirely different, fake movie.
This is exactly what is happening with the very first teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat II, which is actually promoting a fake movie titled Uncaged Fury, starring the entirely real martial arts actor Johnny Cage.
Go on, give it a look:
It is a spectacular in-universe gimmick trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat II sequel, with a blink-and-you-will-miss-it appearance of the tell-tale dragon logo. If I showed this to my dad, he’d likely ask if I wanted to see it with him.
Karl Urban is playing a pretty spot-on Johnny Cage (take a look at his incredible, totally real IMDb) and seems to delivering a hearty dose of action-star buffoonery for the sequel. Johnny Cage has a very specific set of skills, and they mostly revolve around ‘doing all his own stunts’ for this highbrow cinematic art.
It’s a great tone to set for the upcoming sequel, which is slated to hit cinemas this October.
The only real bummer here is that I actually kind of what to see Uncaged Fury.
What do you think of the return of Johnny F. Cage? Did you know the F stands for… Fantastically handsome? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
