If you are anything like me (and lord knows that *I* am) you may well have been wondering where the heck that new Mortal Kombat film was at.
Over 12 months ago, there was confirmation that filming was complete and an October 2025 release date was mentioned – but lo, the film was pushed to find a more suitable window.
Well strap yourself in, because a hot new trailer has krashed onto the scene revealing that the wait is nearly over:
With a heavy focus on Johnny Cage and nary a sight of Cole Young anywhere, the stakes are meteorically high as the film takes us to the Mortal Kombat tournament proper. A slew of past baddies make their return (courtesy of some dark magic bullshit) with poor Johnny wondering if he is well out of his depth – he is just an actor after all.
It’s a pretty hot trailer, filling in a ton of gaps regarding what people should expect – but in short:
- The tournament is here
- King Jerod is having a bad time
- Cole Young likely isn’t the main character this time
- Shao Kahn looks terrifying
That, and a release date is finally announced:
FINISH HIM! Mortal Kombat II arrives in theaters and @imax May 8. #MortalKombatMovie #FilmedForIMAX pic.twitter.com/lOIAZq36hV
— Mortal Kombat Movie (@MKMovie) February 25, 2026
Now the dating of May 8 seems to be for the US inclined, as local theatres that I have managed to enquiry have said that May 14 may be our date of expected bloodshed.
So if you are in for a second round of Mortal Kombat, keep your kalendar clear around then.
