Over the past few days, more and more leakers are making mention that a new DOOM game is not only in development, but it has a name and a scheduled debut.
The game is apparently titled DOOM: The Dark Ages and is slated for a global reveal (like, a proper one) at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase.
Insider Gaming: "DOOM: The Dark Ages’" will be revealed at Xbox Games Showcase on June 9th. Early details heard last year described it as a 'medieval inspired doom world' https://t.co/eucNwf1ra0 pic.twitter.com/TltMati0xx

Where usually your average gaming leak news will all trace back to a singular source of “dude just trust me” or a particularly flippant comment made on a podcast, in this case there are a number of tasty crumbs that make up the trail. For example, Bethesda themselves actually submitted a trademark request that targeted the famous “IDKFA” term – best known as the most generous DOOM cheat code, giving the player all keys, full ammo, and full armour. Establishing a little legal platform for such a thing is often sign that some kind of product is coming.
Then you have the infamous FTC vs. Microsoft document leaks, which openly commented on a new DOOM entry – the details being rather blunt:
- Doom Year Zero and DLC (fiscal year 2023) and a second set of DLC (fiscal year 2024)
Sure, it isn’t 2023 any more – but do you remember 2023? That year was a ballistic power house of glory gaming, with huge AAA hits coming from every direction. A quiet delay to a less packed year makes sense.
So it’s a super plausible outcome for hopeful DOOM fans. Even a shift on the name (Doom: Year Zero may have been a working title) to something mentioning The Dark Ages sounds like a neat time-shift prequel kind of deal. I could wax lyrical about how ID Software already has a killer medieval-style IP that is DOOM adjacent but I also have a shred of hope that maybe this Dark Ages product is really a secret reboot of aforementioned IP. A brand unification perhaps? Shambler and Cyber-Demon team-up? Anyone picking up what I am putting down?
No? Fine. We’ll all see when the Xbox Showcase rolls around on June 9. Then you’ll see.
Are you hungry for more killer DOOM action? Does ‘The Dark Ages’ as a descriptor fill you with hope that it’s going to get medieval on your ass? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
