We Finally Have A Proper Look At The Borderlands Film

Ahead of an imminent trailer release

Good lord this movie feels like it has been coming out forever. Initial word was out that filming had wrapped as far back as June 23, 2021 – with the post production period being a girthy period of time, seeing as we are now healthily into 2024.

But (Good?) things come to those who wait – with a proper look at the film ahead of it’s big trailer reveal at IGN Fan Fest this week.

Some promotional photos give us a real good look at our vault hunters, with a micro-trailer giving us a taste of the chaos that is promised:

Observers have been quick to comment on our intrepid explorers of Pandora. Kevin Hart as Roland sure is something, and anyone with eyes can see that this isn’t the specific cast of the original Borderlands game – so pour a drink out for fans of Brick and Mordecai.

Instead we see a cast of stand out characters from both the original game and the sequels; something that both delights and worries me in regards to a character like Krieg. Even napkin notes about that character are a minefield with the portrayal of mania and mental illness, something that may appear gleefully ignorant on the surface – but in the sea of dick and fart jokes that personify the Borderlands brand (Border-brand) he actually has a nugget of heartfelt depth.

But, the trailer does show us a modicum of what to expect. It’s all sound and fury so far, with a quick quip from Lilith (Cate Blanchett) about how much she hates the planet; which is fair considering it’s a lethal wasteland.

Finally, a poster has also been revealed for the goofy group shot:

So that’s the gang – Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Florian Munteanu and Ariana Greenblatt playing Lilith, Roland, Tannis, Krieg and Tiny Tina respectively. With Claptrap himself voiced by the big Bowser boy Jack Black.

With the odd history of this film being a ride in itself, it really is anyone’s guess as to how it might turn out – But! With a release of August this year we can all find out if it was worth the wait together.

What do you think of the Borderlands film cast? Do the vault hunters live up to expectations? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
