With The Evolution Championship series mere days away, and a promise for those attending to get their hands on the next DLC fighter for Mortal Kombat 1, a flashy trailer has dropped to get you re-acquainted with the whip cracking shinobi known as Takeda Takahashi.
Looking every bit as nutty as his Mortal Kombat XL incarnation, Takeda eats up every last portion of the screen with giant sweeping whip attacks that are sure to infuriate opposing players with his supreme game pressure.
July 23 Takeda joins the #MortalKombat1 roster and Ferra joins the Kameo roster !

Introduced in Mortal Kombat X as part of a new crop of ‘Kombat Kids’, Takeda quickly pulled ahead of the pack as being one of the more interesting and enjoyable characters. While I personally feel that the offspring of existing MK legends got a bit of a bum rap, I can see why Takeda ruled the roost as the de facto ‘coolest’ one, if only because he brought a fighting style that was slick and unique. While ropes are nothing new to Mortal Kombat (GET OVER HERE), Takeda instead had these absurd attacks that extend out from him and look amazing in motion. Couple this with some clever telekinesis (Kenshi is his dad after all) and you would suddenly find yourself dealing with bladed whips and flying lightsabres in even the most mundane of match ups.
While I did not notice any lightsabres in the gameplay preview, there were still plenty of exploding kunai to create distant traps and pressure. While I may never be mechanically skilled enough to make Takeda shine, I am eager to see him in the hands of skilled players – if only for how entertaining the dude is in action. I’ll look forward to seeing lots of Takeda content in the days surrounding Evo, before his release on July 23.
