Publisher Warner Bros. Games has announced that LEGO Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight will now release across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC ahead of schedule on May 22.
It’s all too common to see games get delayed (and delayed again), so it’s nice when we get to talk about the opposite happening. During The Game Awards 2025, it was announced that the latest brick-based adaptation of The Dark Knight would hit shelves on May 29, but the release date has now been moved up by a week, with the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions launching on May 22. It’s worth noting that the Switch 2 version is still slated for a general 2026 release, so those looking to glide, brawl, and brood on the go will have to sit tight.

Legacy of the Dark Knight is a bit of a departure from the previous LEGO Batman titles, as it takes the series into an open-world format. Given a Gotham City to explore as Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Jim Gordon, Talia Al Ghul, and Catwoman, players will interact with an overhauled combat system that’s closer to the Batman Arkham games than the LEGO Batman games of old.
The game’s story is also a major talking point, with the campaign focusing on the World’s Greatest Detective’s greatest hits, from movies, TV series, and comic book runs. From trailers and screenshots, we’ve seen nods to the Dark Knight trilogy, the Tim Burton films, and even the recent Matt Reeves interpretation. It’s a slightly wild approach, but casting a wide net will all but ensure everyone’s favourite Batman is served.
While we’re on the topic of Legacy of the Dark Knight paying homage to Batman’s past, it would be criminal to overlook the recently released trailer that recreates the iconic museum scene from Batman 1989, albeit from a unique LEGO perspective. As a huge fan of that film, it certainly painted a smile on my face.
