Developers Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennett Foddy, and publisher Devolver Digital have announced that the release date for Baby Steps has been pushed back and will now launch on PS5 and PC on September 23.
Reading that, you’re probably expecting a social media release with text on a single-colour background, explaining that game development is challenging in the current climate and that the project needs more time in the oven to meet fan expectations. And yes, the delay is in response to bugs, but not the kind typically referenced in these instances. Yes, with Team Cherry finally planting its flag in the ground and announcing that the feverishly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong will release on September 4, the folks behind Baby Steps made the understandable decision to give that launch some breathing room.
Oh, but there hasn’t been any blog or social media post confirming the reason for the delay. How do I know that Silksong is to blame?
Well:
If you’re not familiar with Baby Steps, that brief little trailer has probably left you with some questions. Developed by the wild triple threat of Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennett Foddy, the folks behind games like Ape Out and Getting Over It, Baby Steps is a purposefully uncomfortable physics-based walking sim, where you are tasked with literally putting one foot in front of the other. Think QWOP, but instead of an athlete, you’re playing as Nate, an unemployed man-child who finds himself in a mist-covered landscape with all manner of oddities scattered about the place. It looks dumb, and I can’t wait.
Are you looking forward to Baby Steps? Are you glad you don’t have to choose between it and Silksong? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
